Saint of the week: Saint Valentine
St. Valentine is the patron saint of love, young people, and happy marriages, and his feast day is February 14th
. There is not much that is known about St. Valentine of Rome. He lived a life pledging the validity of Jesus and was put to the test a variety of times. For example, during a house arrest with Judge Asterius, he questioned Valentine about the truth of God; he presented his blind daughter to Valentine and vowed to do anything for him if he cured his daughter. Valentine restored her vision. St. Valentine was later arrested again for continuing to try to convert people to Christianity. Later, he also was imprisoned for marrying Christian couples and aiding Christians being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. St. Valentine refused to renounce his faith and belief in Jesus Christ, so he was executed and became a martyr February 14, 269.
